Introduction

This quick guide discusses the Count Line with Exclusion functionality available on the Irisys Vector units and how to configure it. A full understanding of the below settings is essential in order to ensure high accuracy that the Vector 4D devices are capable of. This functionality is also referred to as Conditional Counting.

In order to access these settings, you must first make an initial connection to the Vector unit; see separate guide: Irisys Vector 4D - Making a Setup Connection

Counting Settings

Once you are connected to your Vector, the Counting settings are accessed via the ‘Settings’ tab, then ‘Counting’:

If connected to a Vector via an Estate Manager connection, make sure you select the ‘Live View’ option to make changes

Conditional Counting Basics

Enabling conditional counting involves adding a ‘Line Exclusion’ Register. This register consists of both a line and a start/end zone which work together to provide the functionality.

Essentially, the count line works like a regular directional count line, with the exception that a person must be seen starting or ending in the dwell zone in order to generate a count increment. Anyone who crosses the count line without starting or ending in the associated zone will be ignored and won’t generate additional count increments. Alternatively, the register can be configured in a third mode, if required, where people who start in the associated zone are ignored if they cross the count line.

The intention of this register type is to provide functionality which assists with issues associated with security staff, or meet and greet staff, who may occasionally generate additional counts at a doorway or entrance.

It should be noted that people and their associated targets must start or end in the configured zone, and anyone simply walking through the zone will not operate with the line. Because of this it is important to position the zone at the edge of the Vectors active field of view where people are first seen as they enter - or where they are last seen as they leave - the field of view.

Instructions

Click the plus symbol (+) on the Register dialog window, then choose the "Line Exclusion" register, and click [Next]:

Enter a name for the new register, and then click [Next]:

Choose the Exclusion Type and any other options, and then click [Next], Then [Add Register]:

The exclusion type denotes when a target will be counted or ignored.

  • ‘Don’t count if zone entered’ – If a person starts in the zone and then crosses the line they are NOT counted.
  • ‘Count if zone entered’ – If a person starts in a zone and then crosses the line they ARE counted.
  • ‘Count if zone exited’ – If a person crosses the line and then exits the field of view in the zone they ARE counted.
Remember to click the Save button before closing the dialog window.

Line and Zone Configuration

Switch from Video Mode, to Line Edit Mode, in order to configure the count line and zone associated with your conditional counting register.

Both the line and zone are moved and shaped by clicking and dragging the various points. Additional ‘drag’ points can be created by clicking on the smaller circles in the middle of a straight-line segment.

Configure the count line in the required direction. The zone should be positioned only on the floor where people can physically stand/walk, and in a position where people are first seen as they enter the field of view, or where they are last seen as they exit the field of view - dependent on ‘Exclusion Type’ selected. Enabling the Vectors path map view may also help you with determining the best line and zone positions.

Note also that with Exclusions specifying ‘…zone entered’, the zone must be placed before the count line, and for those specifying ‘…zone exited’, the zone must be placed after the count line.
Always watch the Video view and switch back and forth to Line Edit mode in order to tweak the line and zone until you are happy with the configuration.
