Introduction

This quick guide discusses the register Height Histogram settings available on Irisys Vector 4D devices.

In order to access these settings, you must first make an initial connection to the Vector unit; see separate guide: Irisys Vector 4D - Making a Setup Connection.

Register Settings

Once you are connected to your Vector, the Register settings are accessed via the ‘Settings’ tab, then ‘Counting’.

On the 'Registers' dialog window each register has its own settings that can be changed independently, simply by  clicking the Edit symbol, shown here. If the Registers window is not shown click the Registers button first:

The ‘Edit Registers’ dialog will then open:

Height Histogram

The Histogram function provides a visual representation of the various heights of people who have crossed a count line. This data allows you to understand the different heights seen on a weekday when compared to a weekend, for example.

The height histogram data can also assist when configuring any height-based filtering on a Vector 4D device, as it allows you to see where the height boundary between an adult and a child might be.

This data can also be pulled via the Estate Manager REST API if required, or direct from the Vector using the same REST API.

Enabling the Height Histogram functionality simply requires a tick in the ‘Enable’ box, as well as a number of values entered.

The Min Value is effectively the lowest height that you want to start logging. In the above example you can see that 100cm has been chosen.

The Bin Width is the height range each bin will log. Again, in the above example you can see that the bin width is set to 10cm. I.e. 100-109cm, 110-119cm etc.

The Number of Bins is self-explanatory and again in the above example there are 10, covering 100cm up to 199cm.

Remember to click the Save button if you make any changes.

In the below example, people whose height is between 80cm and 1.8m will be included in the 10 bins configured:

The heights of people are logged at an interval determined by the Count Logging settings.

Data Storage Requirements

Note that the storage requirements for Height Histogram data can be quite substantial dependent on the settings configured. The settings referenced here, along with the logging interval setting, will impact the amount of storage available on device for count, and other, data.

At the default logging period of 3600 seconds (1hr) there will be 24 log entries each containing the number of bins specified each day, for 15-minute logging this increases to 96 log entries, and for 1-minute logging this increases to 1440 the log entries per day.

Because of the above, it is recommended that bin widths are not too narrow and number of bins not too large.
