Introduction
This quick guide discusses the individual register Count Mode settings available on the Irisys Vector 4D devices, and how to configure it.
Register Settings
Once you are connected to your Vector, the Register settings are accessed via the ‘Settings’ tab, then ‘Counting’.
On the 'Registers' dialog window each register has its own settings that can be changed independently, simply by clicking the Edit symbol, shown here. If the Registers window is not shown click the Registers button first:
The ‘Edit Registers’ dialog will then open.
Count Modes
The Count Mode selected determines when a valid count should be given for a particular register. Essentially a valid count means someone has crossed a line in the required direction indicated by the direction arrows on that line.
There are two main counting modes, ‘Immediate’ and ‘Deferred’, each with sub-options, which can be enabled as required. Altogether there are a total of five, different, count modes for lines.
Immediate Count Mode
The first count increment is given at the time the person crosses the count line (in the configured direction)
With ‘Anti-dither’ enabled – only the first crossing is registered
With ‘Anti-dither’ disabled – all subsequent line crossings are also registered
Immediate count mode is not a recommended count mode for standard people counting.
Deferred Count Mode
- Count increments are not given immediately as lines are crossed. Instead, any registers are incremented only when the person leaves the field of view
- Each person can only be counted a maximum of once per count line
- The additional ‘U-Turns’ options affects how targets which cross both lines are counted
- Ignore U-Turns
- Count U-Turns
- Count U-Turns Only
- All three of these options relate to when a person first walks across a line in the correct direction, but then ‘U-turns’ and goes back across it in the opposite direction.
In some cases, it may be necessary to change the count mode. This will depend on:
- the installed environment and how people walk through it
- your chosen count line settings
- what you want to count
- what you don’t want to count
See below for some example walking patterns and the increments given in each count mode:
