Introduction
This quick guide discusses the button which is located underneath the Vector. This can be used to reset a device to factory defaults. This might be required after retrieving a device from one location and before installing in another, for example. On occasion, Irisys support may also require you to reset a device to factory defaults. Additionally a much shorter press will temporarily reset the IP address to a known value which may be required when a Vector is unreachable in certain situations.
Button Location
To access the available connections, flip the Vector over.
On a non-PoE version Vector the button is located on the main board next to the USB connector:
On a PoE version the button is located at the opposite side to the cable connectors:
Button Usage
The button needs to be pressed for a certain amount of time for it to do anything. Accidental brief presses of less than 1 second won’t affect the Vector or alter any of its settings.
Note that on some non-PoE Vectors there may be two buttons next to each other. In these cases, the reset button is the one located closest to the USB connector.
Button Press Duration | Affect type | Settings Affected |
---|---|---|
<1 second | None | None |
>1 second but <5 seconds | Temporary | Reset of IP address to known value |
>5 seconds | Permanent | Full Factory default |
One Second Press
If you press the reset button for between 1 and 5 seconds, only the IP address details within the Vector will be changed. They will be temporarily reset to the known default values:
This facility is provided to ensure a network connection to a Vector whose current IP address is not known, without affecting any of the other settings. Once the IP address is reset, you can make a connection and set the IP address details to the required (known) values.
If you chose to not connect to the Vector at this time, simply powering off and on again will return the Vector back to its previous (possibly unknown) network address details.
Five Second Press
If you press the reset button for longer than 5 seconds, the Vector will be fully reset to default settings. This is a permanent reset, and any devices settings already made will be irretrievably lost, including network settings.
The following items are reset:
Item | Description |
Configuration | User configurable settings as applied via the setup software tools, including all network settings. |
Count log | People count data log. |
Validation schedule | Scheduled validation recordings that have not yet started. |
Validation sessions | Previously recorded sessions. |
SSL keys | Used for connections to tools, HTTPS, etc. If removed, these take 2-3 mins to regenerate (on next reboot). Note that a setup connection cannot be re-established until this process is completed. |
As with a temporary reset, the network settings will also be reset to default. Remember that to reconnect to your Vector device again, via IP, to use the default network settings:
The only thing that is not reset is the historical device log. This is never reset and allows Irisys support to retrieve diagnostics information as, and when, required (for RMAs, on site installation issues, etc.).
Once a full reset has been performed, the vector will effectively be the same as a new device coming off the production line.
