Introduction

In the vast majority of cases, the Vector will be installed on the ceiling, looking directly down at the area next to the door. In this way, people will enter through the door and walk through the field of view and out the other side, and the other way around for those exiting through the door.

Correct installation ensures the majority of the available field of view is available for tracking and counting.

Mounting the Vector 1m (3ft) back from the door is the recommended installation position in the vast majority of scenarios.

As long as the ceiling height is within the Vectors mounting height range - not too high, not too low - and there is nothing in the way, the recommendation is to always mount the Vector 1m (3ft) back from the door. By doing this, a person will have to traverse most of the field of view when they enter or leave, which gives plenty of line positioning options later when you come to configure it.

Importantly, mounting 1m back from the door ensures that any movement associated with the opening of the door can be avoiding through setup, i.e. positioning the virtual count lines around the swing of the door.

If there is no physical door, or the door is an automatic side sliding type door, or a door that swings away from the Vector only, then you can mount closer to the door if required:

Note, even if the doors don't swing into the field of view and you're able to mount closer, mounting 1m back from the door will still provide more usable field of view, and so is still recommended whenever possible.

If the ceiling is higher then the field of view will be larger and so you will have more options for mounting. This means you can mount further from the door and not leave a gap where people could be missed:

Using the Irisys Device Calculator spreadsheet will show you the complete range for mounting back from the door for the height you enter. But always consider movement of the door when ultimately deciding where to mount your Vector.
If the ceiling is very low, and the door swings into the field of view, then this can be an issue.

Firstly you need to install the Vector 1m (3ft) back from the door in order to avoid the door when it opens, but this will leave a gap between the door and the edge of the field of view which could lead to people being missed:

To ensure that the door is fully covered and it is not possible to avoid being counted, it may require two devices installed as a wide tracker network to ensure accurate counting.

If you can't install as above, or the environment looks nothing like the examples shown here, take a look at the Awkward Installations page for additional examples.
