The following should be considered when using a calibrator to verify calibration of a Datapaq Logger

Power adaptors and open circuit detection can create a variance in the temperature reading from the thermocouples

Powering the logger during calibration

A power adaptor should not be used to power the logger during a calibration, it should only be powered via the battery.

Open Circuit Detection

Calibrators sometimes do not work well with a logger due to the way the Open Circuit Detect is done for the thermocouples. There is an option to turn off Open Circuit Detect in Insight.

To turn off Open Circuit Detect:

  1. Open Datapaq Insight software and connect the logger via the communication cable.
  2. Via the top menu bar, navigate to Tools > Options.
  3. In the pop-up window, select the Logger tab.
  4. Click [Advanced…], a new pop-up window will open.
  5. In the bottom right-hand corner select the “Disable open circuit detection (Certain loggers only)”.
  6. Click [OK] on both pop-up windows.
  7. Reset the logger by either navigating to Logger > Reset, or pressing F2. Follow the prompts to complete the reset, which will save the settings to the logger.
  8. After testing remember to turn Open Circuit Detect back on again by repeating the steps 1-7, except this time unticking the box  on step 5.

If there is still a variance in the temperature readings, the logger will need to be sent to a Datapaq Service Center for adjustments. Submit request for calibrating a logger
