Introduction

As well as the standard and more popular PoE enabled Vector devices, there is also a non-PoE version available if required.

The non-PoE  version is identical to a PoE Vector in every way but one. Instead of being powered by the 48V PoE network cable it requires a direct connection to a separate 24v dc power supply.

Before running cables and fixing the Vector to the ceiling, make sure that it is being installed in a suitable location. This guide should be used in conjunction with the general installation guide: Irisys Vector 4D - Installation.

Vector Connections

To access the available connections, flip the Vector over:

If you have a PoE version of the Vector see here.

Network Connections

All Vectors – whether PoE or non-PoE – need a CAT5 (or better, CAT6 preferred) network cable connection between the switch and the Vector.

Power

If your Vector has a green power connector then it is not PoE compliant, and you will need the separate 24V power supply connected to that green connector.

Irisys recommend a simple two-core ‘bell-wire’ type cable, to connect the power supply to the Vector, but standard CAT5 cable can also be used, if readily available.

This must connect the 24V, 2 Amp power supply at one end and the Vectors green power connector at the other.

If your power supply has a connector (like the one shown above), simply cut it off (make sure the power is off first) and then connect it directly to the bare wires in your power cable using a screw terminal connector block or similar. Remember to check the polarity of your connections with a multi-meter before powering on.

If using CAT5 network cable for power, ensure that all four pairs are used (two pairs for 24V and two pairs for 0V)

Cabling for Non PoE Vector – Option 2 (Power Injector/Splitter)

Providing the network cable is of sufficient thickness it can be used for both IP data and power. The cable must CAT6 or better with a wire thickness gauge of AWG 22 or 23. CAT5, and cable of gauge AWG 24 or higher can NOT be used. Note the max cable length of 50m when using this method.

This single cable must be used in conjunction with a third-party power injector and splitter.

This comes in two parts with one part connected to your 24V 2A power supply and injects the power along with the IP data.

At one end the splitter directs the power into the Vectors green power connector and IP data in the Vectors RJ45 connector.

These power injector/splitter modules can usually be sourced locally but speak to Irisys support for assistance, if required.

Green Power Connector

Power connections to the Vector, via the green power connector, are shown here.
