Introduction

Many partners will chose to do some kind of preliminary site visit and survey before the installation date in order to confirm the number of devices that may be required for the various counting areas, and ensure that there are no obstacles that will prevent installation from being successful.

The main things to check are:

  • Ceiling height
  • Width of doorway
  • Any ceiling furniture that may prevent optimum placement or which may block some or all of the available field of view, for example, signage, lighting, sprinklers, etc.

Individual Door Survey Guide

As per the installation guide, Vectors should be installed within their mounting height range of 2 - 4.5m. Therefore, the ceiling where the Vector will be mounted must be within this mounting height range.

In the vast majority of cases the Vector should be mounted centrally to the doorway, or opening, and approx 1m back, so check the ceiling at this position.

If there are obstructions on the ceiling at this location other mounting options should be considered. If the ceiling at this position is extremely high or the building is essentially an open area such as in a full fronted 'big box' retail store, then arrangements must be made to either drop the Vector from the ceiling via a pole, or mount on a bracket fixed to the front of the building. Again, the pole or bracket should be installed so as to position the Vector in the optimum position centrally and 1m back.

If there is some concern that a single Vector may not fully cover an doorway or opening, the available field of view at the chosen mounting height should be compared with the door width. It is recommended that the coverage exceeds the door width by a small margin to ensure that there is enough additional field of view to track people who may enter and go immediately left or right.

The Irisys online Installation Planner website can be used to position up to four units in a row at varying mounting heights in order to see the full coverage as well as see the amount of overlap at different separations between 2 or more units.

When using the Installation planner website, the tilt angles of devices can be adjusted too. This may hep when ensuring the correct part of the site is seen from the installation position available, but note that Vector Count devices can only be tilted a maximum of 7 degrees in each orientation.

The Irisys Excel spreadsheet calculator can also be used. This has multiple tabs showing different calculations.

Use the Irisys Excel spreadsheet calculator to show the field of view and number of devices required information for each counting point.
